...حَتَّى بَعَثَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ مُحَمَّداً صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ [وَ آلِهِ] لِإِنْجَازِ عِدَتِهِ وَ إِتْمَامِ نُبُوَّتِهِ، مَأْخُوذاً عَلَى النَّبِيِّينَ مِيثَاقُهُ، مُشَهَّراً لَاِِضْلاَلِهِ، كَرِيمًا وِلاَدَتُهُ. وَ أَهْلُ الأَرْضِ يَوْمَئِذٍ مِلَلٌ مُتَفَرِّقَةٌ، وَ أَهْوَاءٌ مُنْتَشِرَةٌ، وَ طَرَائِقُ مُتَشَتِّتَةٌ، بَيْنَ مُشَبِّهٍ لِلَّهِ بِخَلْقِهِ، أَوْ مُلْحِدٍ فِي اسْمِهِ، أَوْ مُشِيرٍ إِلَى غَيْرِهِ. فَهَدَاهُمْ بِهِ مِنَ الضَّلاَلَةِ، وَ أَنْقَذَهُمْ بِمَكَانِهِ مِنَ الْجَهَالَةِ. ثُمَّ اخْتَارَ سُبْحَانَهُ لِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ [وَ آلِهِ] لِقَاءَهُ، وَ رَضِيَ لَهُ مَا عِنْدَهُ، وَ أَكْرَمَهُ عَنْ دَارِ الدُّنْيَا، وَ رَغِبَ بِهِ عَنْ مُقَارَنَةِ الْبَلْوَى، فَقَبَضَهُ إِلَيْهِ كَرِيماً. وَ لَمْ يَتْرُكْ فِي الأَرْضِ مِنْ سُنَّةٍ إِلاَّ وَ قَدْ أَمَاتَهَا، وَ لاَ حُجَّةٍ إِلاَّ وَ قَدْ نَصَبَهَا أَوْ دَعَا إِلَيْهَا، وَ قَدْ تَرَكَكُمْ عَلَى مَحَجَّةٍ بَيْضَاءَ، لَيْلُهَا كَنَهَارِهَا، يَهْتَدِي بِهَا مِنَ اهْتَدَى. وَ تَرَكَ فِيكُمْ كِتَابَ رَبِّكُمْ فِيكُمْ، مُبَيِّناً حَلاَلَهُ وَ حَرَامَهُ، وَ فَرَائِضَهُ وَ فَضَائِلَهُ، وَ نَاسِخَهُ وَ مَنْسُوخَهُ، وَ رُخَصَهُ وَ عَزَائِمَهُ، وَ خَاصَّهُ وَ عَامَّهُ، وَ عِبَرَهُ وَ أَمْثَالَهُ، وَ مُرْسَلَهُ وَ مَحْدُودَهُ، وَ مُحْكَمَهُ وَ مُتَشَابِهَهُ، مُفَسِّراً جُمَلَهُ، مُوَضِّحاً غَوَامِضَهُ، بَيْنَ مَأْخُوذٍ مِيثَاقُ عِلْمِهِ، وَ مُسْتَثْنًى فِي جَهَالَتِهِ، وَ مَفْرُوضٍ فَرْضُ عِبَادَتِهِ، وَ مَوْضُوعٍ عَنْ جَهْدِهِ، وَ مَخْصُوصٍ دَلِيلُ اسْتِدْلالِهِ، وَ مَعْمُولٌ بِهِ فِي بَعْضِ الْحُدُودِ، وَ مَخْلُوفٌ عَلَيْهِ فِي بَعْضِ الْجُحُودِ، وَ مَأْمُورٌ بِالْوَقْفِ عَلَى تَبْيِينِهِ، وَ مَتْرُوكٌ لِلنَّاظِرِ فِي اسْتِبَانَتِهِ. فِيهِ مَواعِظُ مُتَّبَعَةٌ، وَ أَمْثَالٌ مُقْتَبَسَةٌ، وَ مَحَارِمُ مَحْظُورَةٌ، وَ أَحْكَامٌ مَفْرُوضَةٌ، وَ رُخَصٌ مَوْهُوبَةٌ، وَ شَرَائِعُ مَكْتُوبَةٌ...
...Till Allah sent Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as the fulfiller of His promise and the completion of His Prophethood. His promise had been taken from the prophets, his traits of character were well-known and his birth was honourable. Meanwhile, the people of the earth were divided in different parties, their aims were separate, and ways were diverse. They either likened Allah with His creation or twisted His Names or turned to others than Him. Through Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Allah guided them out of wrong and with his efforts took them out of ignorance.
Then Allah chose for Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) the comfort of the next world in preference to remaining in this world. He removed him from the place of trial and chose for him what is with Him. He gave him the gift of honour. But the Prophet left among you the same which other prophets had left among their peoples, because prophets do not leave them untended (without guidance). He did not leave any loose end for you to catch (but joined one and all). He put for you a clear bright path (of religion).
He (the Prophet) has left among you the Book of your Lord, clarifying for you its lawful and the unlawful, its obligations and discretion, its repealing and the repealed, its permissible and its impermissible, its particular and general, its lessons and illustrations, its clear and ambiguous, and its detailed and the brief.
Its ambiguities have been clarified, its intricacies have been made plain. In it there are some verses whose knowledge is obligatory and others whose ignorance is permissible. It contains what appears obligatory according to the Book but its repeal is signified by the Prophet's act, or what appears obligatory according to the Prophet's act but the Book allows not following it. Or it contains what is obligatory in a given time but not so after that time. Its prohibitions differ; some are major regarding which there exists the threat of fire (Hell), and others are minor for which there are prospects of forgiveness.
It also contains that of which a little is much (i.e., even if a little is done the name of performance is applied to it), and that which is much but not deemed so...
