The Vancouver Recital Society's Founder & Artistic Director, Leila Getz, speaks to Fiona Tinwei Lam, Vancouver's Poet Laureate for 2022-2024. Fiona is a Scottish-born, Vancouver-based writer whose work has appeared in literary magazines across Canada. Her poetry and prose have been published in over forty anthologies (Canada, Hong Kong, and the US), including The Best Canadian Poetry in English.
Fiona and Leila discuss her recent appointment to the Poet Laureate position, and the City Poems Contest that Fiona has developed as part of her work as Poet Laureate. They also chat about her personal history, her introduction to music through her mother, and the deep connection between poetry and music. Fiona even reads and discusses two of her own poems about music (and they are absolutely wonderful!)
