Alstom Mark V SkyTrain in Service for Testing | Mark V SkyTrain Compilation [Part I]

Here's a small compilation of the Mark V SkyTrain undergoing testing in service on the Expo Line.

TransLink initially ordered 205 new Mark V SkyTrain cars to replace the aging Mark I and Mark II fleets which was manufactured by the Urban Transportation Development Corporation (UTDC - '84, '85 and '91 batches) and Bombardier Transportation ('95 Stock and '01 Mark II batch). Adding 30 more cars will increase capacity on the SkyTrain system in time for the opening of both the Expo Line-Langley and the Millennium Line-Arbutus extensions. March 8, 2025 marks the first time a train with an odd number of cars ran 'in service' on the SkyTrain system for testing. With a total of 235 Mark V cars, it will be the largest fleet of the entire SkyTrain system that was once dominated by their elder counterparts.

The Mark V trains of Alstom have a different seating arrangement, information display screen above each doorway, and the return of the Drivers' Seat which was absent in the previous Mark III fleets. These trains can easily be distinguished by their futuristic-modern headlights on each ends of the train, and its vast usage of blue in its colour scheme on their exterior. This first Mark V train is expected to run in revenue service sometime this year; it is estimated to be collecting passengers in the spring. More information to come.

So far, 12 of the entire Mark I fleet has been decommissioned and more cars will be retired once more Mark V trains have been delivered and tested.
