The sex-oozing HIM-icon Ville Valo has proven himself as one of the greatest Finnish rock singers. Possessing a very flexible bass-baritone spanning over 4 octaves, he is able to sing everything from demonic bass to tender falsetto and manic screams. His lower range remains possibly the best in his genre - seldom imitated successfully - yet his voice is also very passionate and soulful. Truly a unique talent.
1. 0:00 - Lower range - Sexy crooned G2s on "Summer Wine".
2. 0:13 - F♯2s from "Venus Doom".
3. 0:31 - Gloomy singing from "Bittersweet", bottoms at F2.
4. 0:49 - A cool choir harmony from "In Venere Veritas": the vocal bass sings F2s.
5. 0:56 - Relaxed E2s from "Gone with the Sin".
6. 1:15 - MONSTROUS low notes from the 2-octave jumper "It's All Tears (Drown in This Love)"; bottoms at E♭2. One of the first recordings where Valo got to showcase his bass range properly.
7. 1:33 - E ♭2s from "Kiss of Dawn" live, better than studio! (Orpheum Theatre, 2008)
8. 1:54 - Singing around the same pitch on "W.L.S.T.D.", probably Valo's most impressive post-Screamworks vocal.
9. 2:06 - Calm D2s from "Song or Suicide".
10. 2:17 - A gargantuan backing C♯2 from "Razorblade Kiss".
11. 2:27 - A strong C2 sung live during "Killing Loneliness". (Pukkelpop, 2006)
12. 2:39 - The amazing singing from "Sleepwalking Past Hope": gets down to (at least) C2. Probably the band's finest moment as musicians.
13. 3:05 - Crazy low passage from "Venus Doom", trails down to B1.
14. 3:33 - A frightening slide down to A1 from "Passion's Killing Floor".
15. 3:49 - The mindblowing live vocal improv during "Funeral of Hearts": trails down to B1, briefly touching G♯1 as well! (Rock Am Ring, 2010)
16. 4:26 - Eerie lows during the live cover of Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell", eventually trails down to G♯1. Valo was apparently somewhat ill during the gig, as evident by his higher singing. (Rock Am Ring, 2010)
17. 4:48 - A very Peter Steele-esque moment from the ending of "In the Nightside of Eden" - Gets down to G♯1.
18. 5:03 - A direct live homage to Type O Negative during "Wicked Game": Ville sings melody around B1, also trailing down to F♯1 around one point. Mige does the hissing. (Rock Am Ring, 2010)
19. 5:34 - The live ending of "Killing Loneliness": Valo trails down to a freaking D1. (Orpheum Theatre, 2008)
20. 5:58 - A connected descend down to a C1 during "Gone with the Sin" live, inhuman! (Tavastia, 2012)
21. 6:15 - Higher range - Relaxed F4s from "Wings of a Butterfly".
22. 6:33 - F♯4s from the Chris Isaak cover "Wicked Game". The video is a fun combo of humour and nudity!
23. 6:53 - A gritty A4 from "Behind the Crimson Door".
24. 7:05 - Agile melody A4s from "Buried Alive By Love (616 Version)".
25. 7:21 - Mezza voce B♭4 from "Kiss of Dawn" live version. (Projekt Revolution, 2007)
26. 7:30 - A chesty B4 from "Buried Alive By Love".
27. 7:38 - Wicked, spacious B4s from "Dead Lover's Lane", also with some additional distortion.
28. 8:04 - A feathery tenor high C (aka. C5) on the amazing "It's All Tears (Drown in This Love)" live version. (Overdrive, 1998)
29. 8:10 - An impressively soft live C♯5 during "Kiss of Dawn". (Orpheum Theatre, 2008)
30. 8:22 - A very false chord-distorted C♯ on "Love, the Hardest Way".
31. 8:30 - A beltier one from "Sigillum Diaboli".
32. 8:38 - VERY intense melody - centered on B4-D5 - from "Like St. Valentine".
33. 8:52 - An impressively distorted E♭5 from "In Venere Veritas".
34. 9:04 - A great E♭5 from a live performance of "Soul on Fire". (Orpheum Theatre, 2008)
35. 9:19 - The exploding finale from "W.L.S.T.D." - First a bright C5, then another one ascending up to a gritty E♭5.
36. 9:38 - The extremely intense vocal climbs from "Disarm Me (With Your Loneliness)": first one tops at a well-connected C5, the second one is centered around C5-E♭5.
37. 10:03 - The cool vocal portamento from "Bleed Well" (gets up to an E5 without any breaks or problems) followed by some singing around B4-D5 found later in the song.
38. 10:20 - A powerful E5 from "Kiss of Dawn", followed by some well-controlled chesty belting up to B♭4... Shame for the bad quality, but the vocals make up for it. (Lowlands, 2008)
39. 10:31 - A huge surprise from "Ode to Solitude": Valo first sings melody around C5-C♯5, then belts a huge F5!
40. 10:51 - A thin G5 from a live version of "Razorblade Kiss", definitely around the top of Valo's mix range. (Lumnezia, 2008)
41. 10:56 - An impressive live scale up to a connected G5 during "Killing Loneliness". (Helldone, 2009)
41. 11:04 - A very fun live clip ("Don't Shake Me, Lucifer") where Valo duels with the guitar and brings his falsetto up to a controlled B5! (Berlin, 2000)
42. 11:24 - A weird clip around the roof of Valo's vocal range, a brief C♯6/D6 from the "Rendezvous with Anus"-cover.
43. 11:29 - Finally a cool vocal moment from "Sleepwalking Past Hope", a portamento up to a vampiric screech. No idea about the pitch!
