Hi! I’m Joseffa—Dutch, Moluccan, and now living in the United States. In this video, we’re back in the Netherlands, where my American husband, David, tries papeda for the first time, lovingly prepared by my uncle.
Papeda is a traditional Moluccan dish (and also from Papua!) made from sago starch, with a unique sticky, stretchy texture that’s often compared to jello—or even glue! It’s typically served with flavorful sauces like tjolo tjolo or pinang kuning and is a staple in Moluccan cuisine.
Beyond the food, this video dives into Moluccan culture, the significance of papeda, and personal reflections on heritage and identity.
Have you ever tried papeda? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!
