Do you believe in miracles?
On the southern borderlands of Scotland, a boy once grew up considered slow, struggling with words, unable to read or write like other children. Yet within his fragile mind burned an intense desire to know God. With a humble heart and unwavering faith, he knelt for hours before the Blessed Virgin Mary, entrusting his limited intellect to her intercession. From that moment, his mind was awakened, and his path was set.
That child would grow to become the “Subtle Doctor,” a brilliant teacher and Franciscan friar who offered both intellect and life in defense of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, even at the cost of exile and suffering. His story is not a spectacle of thunderous wonders, but a quiet miracle shaped by obedience, perseverance, and grace. Today, Saint John Duns Scotus is being proposed by the Church for recognition as a Doctor of the Church.
