In this video, we look at the giant covalent molecule graphite. We look at how covalent bonding takes place in graphite and why graphite has delocalised electrons. We then use this to explain why graphite is a soft substance with a high melting and boiling point. We also look at why graphite can conduct both electricity and heat, in terms of the delocalised electrons.
