🎶 Jazz & Strings - Live at Ettal Abbey
JPEK meets the Elina Violina String Quartet
A jazz evening full of colors, virtuosity, and improvisation
The warm, mellow sound of the vibraphone blends effortlessly with the nuanced tones of acoustic piano, the deep resonance of double bass, and the subtle, expressive accents of the drums – this is the unmistakable sound of JPEK, an exceptional jazz ensemble. Featuring vibraphonist Tizian Jost, pianist Bernhard Pichl, double bassist Johannes Ochsenbauer, and drummer Michael Keul, the group brings together some of Germany’s most acclaimed jazz musicians. JPEK is known for its elegantly swinging, masterfully crafted music and inventive improvisations that transport audiences deep into the world of modern jazz.
The Elina Violina Jazz String Quartet (EVSQ) introduces an entirely new dimension to jazz this evening. Founded by the versatile violinist Elina Violina, this pioneering jazz string quartet showcases just how captivating jazz can sound on string instruments. Joining her is violinist Tanja Amelyanenka – both graduates of the “Jazz Improvisation for Strings” program at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich (HMTM) – as well as violist Maximiliane Norwood and cellist Konstanze Rupprecht, both current music students. With their shared passion for improvised music and their distinctive approach to jazz, the quartet blends traditional string timbres with the energy and spontaneity of jazz into an extraordinary and rarely heard sonic experience.
Together, JPEK and the Elina Violina Jazz String Quartet create a captivating fusion of two musical worlds. At the core of the program is the dialogue between the ensembles – a synergy of swing, string textures, and improvisational freedom. Original compositions and specially arranged works for this unique collaboration vividly illustrate how jazz can transcend genre boundaries and open up new artistic spaces.
The historic atmosphere of Ettal Abbey lends this concert evening a special touch of magic. Dive into a compelling interplay of tradition and innovation, classical and jazz – a concert experience unlike any other, where the meeting of a classical string quartet and jazz band brings improvisational music to life in a fascinating new way.
