One person from the Assam side was killed after fresh clashes broke out along the Assam-Meghalaya border at Lapangap village on Thursday. Home Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed the incident and said that curfew has been imposed in the affected areas to prevent further escalation.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said that the Assam authorities have also enforced curfew on their side of the border. He further directed the chairman of the Regional Committee from West Jaintia Hills to immediately coordinate with its counterpart in West Karbi Anglong, Assam, to conduct a joint site inspection and assess the situation on the ground.
The Home Minister urged both sides to maintain calm and ensure that peace is restored at the earliest, reiterating the government’s commitment to resolving border issues through dialogue and mutual understanding.
