Why are guns so heavily regulated in Australia, but a common hammer — capable of serious harm — can be bought without a licence, ID, or background check?
In this video, we’re confronting the growing disconnect between Australian firearms laws and basic common sense. Using a real-world comparison between a boltless, unloaded rifle and an everyday household hammer, we ask a question that too many politicians, media outlets, and lawmakers avoid: What is actually dangerous?
Under Australia’s strict gun legislation, even owning or transporting a firearm that cannot function — one with no bolt, no ammunition, and no magazine — can be considered a criminal offence. Meanwhile, tools like hammers, crowbars, or baseball bats, which can cause serious blunt-force injuries, are totally unregulated.
We’re not saying hammers should be banned — we’re saying maybe it’s time to ask: Are Australia’s gun laws focused on actual risk, or just fear and perception?
You’ll learn how firearm parts like bolts are treated legally as firearms themselves in several states, and how responsible, licensed gun owners can be criminalised for simple errors in transport, storage, or paperwork. You'll also see how media portrayal of guns has shaped a public narrative that’s detached from data and everyday reality.
👉 Poll results from our community clearly show that people can tell the difference between real danger and perceived threat — but the law often doesn’t.
We also break down the firearm suicide statistics in Australia, and how the mental health crisis, not responsible ownership, is the real issue behind the majority of gun deaths. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, over 77% of firearm-related deaths are suicides, not homicides.
This isn’t a rant — it’s a logical, fact-driven breakdown of how overregulation affects real Australians. Whether you’re a licensed firearm owner, a supporter of personal responsibility, or someone just trying to understand the law, this video will challenge you to think critically about how we define “danger” — and who gets punished in the name of safety.
