Harold Ritcher plays the first movement(Allegro) of Sonata No. 1 for piano in C Major nicknamed “The Beautiful Moment” composed by Samuel Yawson.
The concept of the sonata implies a cycle of two or more movements of differing character. The great majority of sonatas as well as several musical forms since the time of Haydn utilize this structural principle. Contrast of key, tempo, meter, form and expressive character distinguish the various movements. Unity is provided by key relationships (The first and last movements use the same tonic, and intervening movements are related to the tonic) and through motivic relationships, which may be clearly evident or disguised with the utmost subtlety (Schoenberg, 1970).
As an art music composer, I believe in creativity and variety and in my inventive faculty I stimulate the best creation I could and with also with inspiration from the great masters of art music.
This is my first sonata for the pianoforte and it was completed on 1st June 2018. It has three distinctive movements;
I. Allegro- In a sonata-allegro form (A-Exposition, B- Development, C- Recapitulation)
II. Minuet & Trio- In a compound ternary form with A- Minuet(ABA’), B- Trio(ABA’) and Minuet Repeated.
III. Rondo: Presto- This has movement is in 7-part Rondo form(ABA-C-ABA) and Coda and very fast(Presto).
