Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of Akeem "The African Dream" in the WWF
With the WWF gaining massive mainstream exposure in the late 80s thanks to megastars such as Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage, it's only natural that Vince McMahon would attempt to create huge bad guys to try and take on his larger than life superstars. One of these bad guys he brought into the World Wrestling Federation was the One Man Gang, a huge biker character who was rough and tough in the ring.
When Vince decided that the One Man Gang was not marketable enough, it was time for McMahon to approach Gang with the news that his character was going to change. Character and gimmick changes within wrestling aren't uncommon, but One Man Gang's transformation into Akeem "The African Dream" was something that absolutely no one could have predicted. It would turn out to be one of the most bizarre and questionable moments in WWE history.
In this video from Wrestling Bios, we take a look at Akeem in the WWF. Topics covered include The One Man Gang before the WWF, his initial debut, the character change that saw One Man Gang become Akeem, his tag team with The Big Boss Man, how George Gray (the man who portrayed Akeem) felt about the bizarre character change and much more.
