MIFGS 2025 | Best in Show Garden ǝ’skāp | Malcolm Berce Interview

Malcolm Berce from Desert Flower Landscaping joins Clint Adams to discuss the award-winning garden ǝ’skāp at this year’s Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

ǝ’skāp took home Best in Show, Gold, and Best Use of Plant Life—an incredible achievement for South Australia. The construction was conducted by Malcolm alongside Jason Schulz of Yergan Landscape. The garden was designed by Rob Cooper of Distinctive Gardens.

Malcolm played a pivotal role in shaping ǝ’skāp—a space designed for reflection and reconnection. This lush, predominantly Australian native garden blends modern design with natural elements. Flowing grasses create movement, layered planting enhances depth, and a vine-covered structure provides shade. A natural stone firepit invites gathering, while a reflection pond mirrors the sky. Floating stairs and walkways give the sensation of walking on water.

At the close of MIFGS, the garden’s structure will be donated to Little Heroes Foundation and auctioned to support childhood dementia research.
