Did These Set the 1993 Cobra Mustang In Motion??

At Ponies In The Smokies 2023 there was a "plethora" of SAAC Shelby cars on display. Of 62 Total Made, there were FIVE on display. Each car was a representation of the different colors, options, and models the SAAC Shelby Foxbody Mustangs were offered in. Two convertibles and three hatchbacks with both MkI and MkII cars represented.

These cars were built to a HIGH standard of quality. The production details had to be held to Ford's production standard. For Example, at the time those standards required decals to end before the edge of a panel.

The modifications of the MkI cars were all the same which included GT40 heads, GT40 intake, roller rockers, larger throttle body and spacer, and a free flowing Borla cat back. The suspension included Koni shocks and struts, lowering springs, and all wheel disc brakes as well as the iconic 3 piece Simmons wheels which is still in business today. The other thing is that all of the MkI cars are white with blue stripes.

The MkII cars were more customized. They offered the cars in red and black and they still kept the white with blue stripes combo. The MkII cars could be ordered with Recaro seats and a supercharger. They also offered the motor mods that the MkI cars had but a supercahrger could not be put on that motor. So a supercharger meant you stayed with the stock 5.0 motor. The exterior look and suspension on the MkII is identical to the MkI except for the quarter window badges.

These cars are the only Foxbody Mustang production cars outside of Saleen Foxbody Mustangs that were produced with a numbered registry where the cars were identical and not "made to order" for each customer. The DECH, Steeda, Kenny Brown Outlaw, and other performance Mustang builders typically built one off cars for each customer where wheels could be different as well as interior ergonomics. That's more of a customizer than a production line of cars. It's fair to say that when these get to be a household name there will be a run on prices with these SAAC Shelby cars. It's best said that you should "pay now or pay more later"
