Topic: Opportunities to Advance the Anti-Corruption Agenda at the 10th UNCAC COSP

As part of the Anti-Corruption Policy and Research Outreach and Engagement (APROE) Program, the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) in conjunction with U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and the UNCAC Coalition hosted a virtual Roundtable event on Thursday, October 19th focusing on ‘Opportunities to Advance the Anti-Corruption Agenda at the 10th UNCAC COSP.”

The event was part of the INL-funded Anti-Corruption Policy and Research, Outreach and Engagement (APROE) program, which facilitates dialogue on current activities under the United States Strategy on Countering Corruption, published in December 2021. Discussions addressed Pillar Four of the Strategy, “Preserving and Strengthening the Multilateral Anti-Corruption Architecture,” and includes specific objectives on strengthening implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). The conversation addressed how civil society actors can leverage engagement in the upcoming 10th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, also known as the UNCAC CoSP 10. This year’s CoSP is hosted by the United States and will be held in Atlanta, Georgia from December 11-15, 2023.

The convening was moderated by Mathias Huter who serves as the Managing Director of the UNCAC Coalition, and the panelists included:

• Laura S.H. Holgate, U.S. Ambassador to International Organizations in Vienna.
• Jessica Estrada, Director of Transparency and Anti-Corruption, National Foundation for Development, Transparency International Chapter, El Salvador.
• Thom Townsend, Executive Director, Open Ownership; and
• Nicholas Miller, Senior Legal Advisor and Coordinator for Multilateral Engagement, International Center for Not-for-Profit Law.

The online event was attended by several anti-corruption stakeholders including U.S. Government personnel, civil society representatives and academia.
