In the Bible, Matthew 4:1-11 describes Jesus being tempted by the devil in the wilderness after fasting for 40 days and nights. The first temptation is for Jesus to turn stones into bread, and he replies, "It is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God".
The devil then offers Jesus all the kingdoms of the world in exchange for worship, but Jesus replies, "Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!" . The devil leaves, and angels help Jesus.
