On July 4th, 1946, 200,000 people gathered on a hill near the town of Gdańsk, Poland.
Before them stood a row of gallows. One by one, eleven bound prisoners were placed on the backs of American military trucks. At the given signal, the trucks drove forward, leaving the war criminals to hang.
Among those executed was the commandant of the Stutthof concentration camp, Yan Poles, along with ten of his loyal subordinates — including five women, all under 25 years of age.
What led these young women to commit some of the cruelest acts known to humanity?
What drew them to serve as executioners in a Nazi death camp?
And how did the Allied forces track them down and bring them to justice?
