'The Pirate' (1973) is a martial arts adventure set on the sea and along the coast. Ti Lung plays a pirate who’s on the run but still tries to help regular people, making it hard to tell if he’s really a hero or a villain. David Chiang plays a soldier working undercover to capture the pirates.
'The Pirate' is a Shaw Brothers action martial arts film that was recently released on Blu-ray by Eureka Entertainment as part of the 'Horrible History' collection.
A third group in the movie—neither full military nor regular pirates—ends up being the most interesting. They push around the townspeople while doing what the army wants. With their loud personalities and clear goals, this group often steals the show (especially the guy with the big mole on his face).
This isn’t top-tier “Iron Triangle” material, but the outdoor settings, sea battles, and fresh scenery make it an okay watch.
