Vandiperiyar is a spice village in Idukki district, Kerala, India. It is known for tourism, tea and coffee plantations, black pepper and other spice products. It is also known as an educational city and a number of tea factories are situated in the town. The Periyar River flows through the town.
Vandiperiyar is on National Highway 183, directly connected with Kottayam. Thekkady is 18 km away.

Vandeperiyar is a quaint, little town in Idukki District, Kerala, 18km from Thekkady. At an altitude of 2743ft. above sea level, this hilly town has been a delight for travellers who enjoy exploring plantations and spice farms. Despite the commercial activity, with greenery engulfing a traveller, Vandeperiyar has found a way to take you back to nature. The plantations are an ecosystem of their own - nourishing flora and fauna as the neighbouring forests do.
With the enchanting River Periyar flowing through, Vandiperiyar is famous for the cultivation of spices, herbs and its breathtaking natural terrain. Nature lovers can explore the Government Agricultural Farm and the Flower Garden other than exploring the expansive coffee and tea plantations in the region, a major source of income for the locals. This industrious town also has a number of tea factories that offer guided tours.

Connemara Tea Factory
This tea factory in Vandiperiyar is one of the largest and most popular tea factories in Kerala. Visitors are offered guided tours here that give them an insight into the tea factory and the various stages of tea production. It also has a tea museum where visitors can learn about the history of tea in India. The tour also involves tea-tasting sessions. Additionally, interested people can buy a variety of products available on sale. This place also produces coffee and black pepper.
Timings - Monday to Saturday; 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
It takes approximately 17 minutes to reach the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary by car from Vandiperiyar. You can witness a variety of wildlife species here including bison, leopards, tigers, and so on. You can also opt for a boat ride on the Periyar Lake or go on a guided trek within the sanctuary.

Trekking
Vandiperiyar has a few hiking trails that are perfect for all adventure enthusiasts. These treks are mostly low to moderate on difficulty level. The Periyar Lake Loop as well as the trail from Vandiperiyar to Sabarimala are very popular among hikers.
Vandiperiyar is located at a distance of 18km from Thekkady and is very well connected to the main city. Buses take approximately 30 minutes and are the most convenient and affordable way to reach Vandiperiyar from Thekkady.
