Introduction to the Squid Game. A digital token based on the popular South Korean Netflix comedy Squid Game has lost nearly all of its value after being discovered to be a hoax. Squid, which billed itself as a "play-to-earn cryptocurrency," had its price skyrocket shortly after its inception, increasing by thousands of percent. But all this turns out to be a rug pull.
History of Squid Game Token. In October 2021, an unidentified developer released a cryptocurrency token based on the immensely popular Netflix show about a dangerous game in which players risk their lives to dig themselves out of tremendous financial distress. The digital currency, known as Squid, began trading on the PancakeSwap platform on October 26 at a cent per token, according to cryptocurrency pricing website CoinMarketCap. According to CoinMarketCap data, the price had risen to $2,861 by November 1st.
How much did the Crypto Squid Token scam cost? According to a survey from cryptocurrency intelligence firm CipherTrace, the prevalent crypto scam cost investors $113 million between January and July. According to Gizmodo, the creators of the Squid token likely made off around $3.3 million.
