The St. Petersburg City Council is voting today on whether to extend an agreement with a Black-led development team working to bring housing and a grocery store to the Deuces/Tangerine Plaza area.
Sugar Hill is proposing a redevelopment plan for Tangerine Plaza that includes:
🛒 A full-service grocery store to help close the food access gap in South St. Pete.
🏘️ New mixed-income housing to support affordability and strengthen the corridor.
🏢 Commercial + community space for local businesses and neighborhood services.
📈 A phased, community-centered development approach honoring the culture and history of the Deuces.
The proposal is led by a Black-owned development team ✊🏾, and aims to bring long-term stability to a site that has seen years of closures and stalled redevelopment.
Today’s Council vote will decide whether the City will extend the current agreement so Sugar Hill can continue moving the project forward.
