群馬県甘楽郡甘楽町小幡にある楽山園の散策。高崎駅から車で約30分。
江戸時代初期に織田氏によって造られた小幡藩邸の池泉回遊式の庭園。京都の桂離宮と同じ特色をもつ。池を中心として起伏のある地形を造り出すとともに、複数の茶屋を配し、園路にも工夫を凝らしている。池に注ぎ込む水は雄川堰から取水されたもの。庭園の西側にある雄川をはさんだ山並を借景として取り込むことで、豊かな広がりを演出している。

This is a garden in the pond-and-water-envelope style of the Obata Clan's residence built by the Oda clan in the early Edo period. It has the same characteristics as Katsura Detached Palace in Kyoto. The garden has an undulating topography with a pond at its center, multiple teahouses, and an ingenious garden path. The water that pours into the pond is taken from the Ogawa Channel. The mountains across the Ogawa River on the west side of the garden are used as a borrowed landscape to create a rich expanse.
