Join us on the UK Fossils Road Tour as we explore Tidmoor Point, Dorset, one of the lesser-known but rewarding fossil hunting locations along the Jurassic Coast.
In this guide, we cover:
• Where Tidmoor Point is and how to access it
• What fossils you can realistically find (including ammonites and marine fossils)
• Best tides and conditions for fossil hunting
• Safety tips and responsible collecting along the Dorset coastline
Tidmoor Point is a quieter alternative to more crowded Dorset fossil spots, making it ideal for patient hunters who enjoy exploring natural cliff falls and beach exposures. Tidmoor Point is a small promontory of highly productive Oxford Clay, situated along the shoreline of The Fleet lagoon, opposite Chesil Beach. Renowned for its pyrite and limonitic casts of small ammonites, the cliff here is very low. Apart from ammonites, the site is also rich in belemnites, crinoids, crabs, lobsters, sharks, reptiles, crocodiles, fish and molluscs.
⚠️ Always fossil hunt responsibly: check tide times, avoid unstable cliffs, and follow local collecting guidelines.
If you enjoy fossil hunting, geology, or UK coastal adventures, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and follow the road tour as we travel to fossil sites across Britain.
