Today we're going to talk about engineered wood fiber (EWF), or playground safe mulch for playgrounds.

Used in a playground setting, it's a good low-maintenance, low cost, safe and accessible playground surfacing option

EWF consists of hardwood blends that have been cut to a fibrous consistency of random-sized pieces no greater than 2 inches in length and free of hazardous substances.

Our engineered wood fiber is playground safe and rated on fall heights up to 8’ high.

Assuming proper drainage, maintenance, and installation, engineered wood fiber, is considered an accessible playground surfacing.

Maintenance includes raking and cleaning of any debris that can be buried below the surface.

Installed to a 9 inch compacted depth EWF requires a containment border to maintain the proper depth throughout the playground area.

Price ranges are between a dollar $1.65 to $2 per square foot installed

Budget every two years for additional replenishment of 2-3” to top off due to decomposition.

No warranty is provided for EWF, but given its low cost, low maintenance, safe and accessible performance, it’s the most popular option for playground surfacing in the Southeast.
