Here is a walk around tour of two locomotives from one of my favorite railroads. The first locomotive is a electric locomotive nicknamed "Little Joe". The E70 was originally built for Russia by General Electric in the 1950's. However due to the cold war between the US and Russia these locomotives were banned for export. The Milwaukee Road eventually purchased twelve of these locomotives after negotiations with General Electric. These locomotives served the Milwaukee Road very well until they were retired in 1974. Three locomotives are preserved (two are South Shore). One locomotive is operational at the Illinois railroad museum. Milwaukee Road E9A, #36A, was a fully operational locomotive that was overhauled in 2006. I was working for the company that overhauled it, and even took a ride in the locomotive during testing. Details are sketchy, but I believe this locomotive was overhauled for the ill fated Golden Pacific Railroad in Tacoma, Washington who later went bankrupt before payment was made for repairs of the locomotive. Not sure why it was donated, but sure seems a waste of a perfectly good locomotive.
