Matthew was an active sinner when Jesus called him; he wasn’t an ex-tax collector or a reformed Roman collaborator. He was sitting in his booth collecting taxes when Jesus called. Jesus actively socialised with those considered sinners; this was one of the strengths of the early TSA. What are we doing now? What am I doing now to get alongside those who don’t know Jesus?
