Pat Martino Activity 3 Line Study

Activity 3 is where the root notes lie on SG 25 (String Group 2 + 5)

It is a very interesting area on the guitar and a very creative place to play lines from!

In this video we will also look at how to improvise over an E7#9#5 chord using the Pat Martino lines. So in that example we will play F minor over E. Specifically F Melodic minor which equates to E Superlocrian with degrees R, b2 #2, 3, b5, #5, b7.

We will also look at improvising over a D minor 7b5 chord. On this chord we would be playing the F Melodic minor scale equating to the D Aeolian b5 scale with degrees R, 2, b3, 4, b5,, b6, b7.

The gist of how it works:

"You play a LINEAR EXPRESSION (or a line) using a modified Dorian or Melodic Minor with chromaticism. This becomes your weapon for performing over chord changes."

The lines are based on the minor scales but can be adjusted to fit over any and all chord changes!
