This is Spartanburg County Siren number 5 in the system, an original late 80's Whelen WPS-4000-4. This unit is the only Whelen 4000 in the Spartanburg system that wasn't re-rigged with Vortex Type 1 controls, thus it retains its original ESC-864 controller.
This siren isn't very loud, likely due to it's age and a couple of the drivers must be blown out. It was still an awesome experience to hear an analog Whelen! I love analog wail so much! A group of more enthusiasts were here too, including TrainsAndSirens1, Sirens Of Spartanburg, SPCKennesaw, Central Virginia EAS, and me lol.
This siren is located at Chesnee Fire Rescue Station #2 off of SC 11, in a small unincorporated town called Arrowwood, SC, about 2.5 miles from Chesnee.
Exact Coordinates: 35°09'43.2"N 81°53'48.5"W
Spartanburg County tests the 1st Saturday of each month at 1 PM EST, weather pending.
