100 diamonds of different origin were tested at Analytical Gemology and Jewelry in New York and Canadian Gem Lab in Vancouver. They are loose and mounted: colourless and colored lab-grown diamonds, natural diamonds, colour enhanced (irradiation, annealing, multistep process), laboratory-grown diamonds and difficult cases often labelled “undetermined” by major labs. We tested samples with portable and advanced instruments including:
UV light (LW/SW)
Cross Polarized Filters
UV-VIS spectrometer
FTIR spectrometer
PL spectrometer
A summary of results would be presented in the lecture, but all results will be disclosed in a 2022 edition of a book “100 Diamonds on 5 Instruments”.
Branko Deljanin, B.Sc. FGA, GG, DGA is President and Head Gemologist at CGL Canadian Gemlab and Director of Gemmological Research Industries (Canada). Since 1999 when he detected first coloured HPHT enhanced diamonds on the market, he has spent a great deal of time studying HPHT treatments of natural diamonds and ID of synthetic diamonds (HPHT and CVD), and natural pink diamonds.
Dusan Simic, B.Sc. FGG is research gemologist of AG&J (Analytical Gemology and Jewelry, NYC). Simic’s intense research in identification projects on HPHT treatments, synthetic diamonds, multi-step treatments of diamonds and radiation and annealing processes as well as his technical know-how of diamond analytical instruments have been well appreciated in the gems and jewelry industry.
