Grammy, Emmy, Tony, and Webby award winning and nominated songwriter, performer, visual artist, party thrower extraordinaire Allee Willis conducted 70 sing-alongs in her beloved hometown of Detroit to make "The D", a record and "micro-documentary" that features 5000 lead singers, all Detroiters, more people in history than have ever been on a record before. Willis, who wrote one of the biggest theme songs of all time, "I'll Be There for You" (the Friends theme), wrote "The D" with Andrae Alexander to be a theme song to accompany the re-imagination of Detroit. They co-produced the record with Grammy winning producer/songwriter Narada Michael Walden. Aside from a small Indiegogo campaign, Willis funded the entire project herself over the five years it took to make it. "The D" premiered at the Detroit Institute of Arts on September 28, 2017.
