She was concerned it was getting dark and I was concerned about the swarms of mosquitoes. Neither of us appeared worried about the gnarly 7-mile boulder-filled trail that took 3 hours to complete, but Slick Rock Trail (open to street legal vehicles only) is relentless. The closest CA has to Moab-like riding, this trail starts at Alpine Lake by Bear Valley in the Stanislaus National Forest and winds through the alpine Sierras to reach Utica Reservoir. 4x4s and jeeps often take 7+ hours to complete the route. I thought it would be easy on dirt bikes. I was wrong.
