My mixer quit turning, the sacrificial plastic gear had sheared apart after much use kneading bread and pizza dough. The good news is that it's an inexpensive and fairly easy repair! I also discovered that moisture had corroded the inside of my mixer gearbox, so my mixer may not be long for this world anyway. But with new, high quality grease and parts, I should still get a few years out of it! My mixer model number is KSM97DP but has basically the same process as all the Classic and Deluxe 4.5-5qt tilt-head mixers, going back decades.
