►New cars are great at what they do, but sometimes they can work too well for their own good. Such is the case with the AC evaporator unit on the early SPA-chassis Volvos. In many cases, the refrigerant running through it would get so cold it would freeze and crack the surrounding plastic. That leak would release the R134a, leaving you without a functioning AC system.
Volvo's fix is a simple resistor placed in the cabin air temp sensor's harness. It's a simple jumper that plugs in in line with the sensor. The trickiest part of installing this harness is getting under the glove box; luckily, it only takes a couple of tools.
In this video, Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro's Professional DIYer, installs the evaporator resistor harness in a Volvo XC90.
