Today we are going to learn how to play solo over a ii-V-I in the key of A on the ukulele. Well, what on earth does that mean? That is a good place to start! That refers to a classic chord progression, THE classic chord progression in Jazz, the 2 5 1 is to Jazz what the 12 bar is to blues, what a 16 bar verse is to Hip-Hop, it is the foundation of the style and what people will be playing at jams across the world. So you need to know how to construct a 2-5-1 chord progression in any key, you need to know what scale goes with it and then you are ready to solo over it. Jazz is known for being experimental, but that doesn't mean that experimentation lacks precision, and how exactly do we be precise? With two little words, chord tones, chords tones are the notes that are in both the chord and the scale, these are the notes that you aim for that makes your solo sound like it belongs to the chord progression, the notes you play to the get the solo to weave in and out of the chords, to make one cohesive beautiful jam.

We are going to walk through scale shapes 3 and 4 of the major scale and resolve all the chords tones in the E7 and Amaj7 chords, the V and the I in the key of Amaj7, meaning if you take note and learn to transpose these ideas you can resolve any note in the hose chords from the major scale. Very powerful tool to have in the belt.
