Rochette, the one who stole our hearts

I am really surprised how this video has gone viral. When I post videos to YouTube it is to share it with family & friends. My videos normally only get a couple hundred views at best, but this one took off. Well, here is the story behind the video. On one of our trail walks at Point au Roche State Park my wife heard a noise and we stopped to investigate. There in the leaf litter was this little red squirrel, she saw us and ran over to my wife and ran up her leg to her hip. It truly was like she was asking for help. She was so cold, I cupped my hands and she curled up in a ball sucking up the heat. She definitely wouldn't have survived on her own and we couldn't put her back on the forest floor and leave her to die. We took her home and my wife researched what kind of milk formula she needed. For those first few weeks, my wife got up in the middle of the night to feed her, she needed to be fed every 4 hours. When she was about 12 weeks old (no way to know exactly) SHE decided she was full grown and it was time to return to the forest. The first few nights she returned to us famished and stayed the night. But within 3-4 days she had made her own nest somewhere in our forest (we have 35 acres) and only returns now occasionally for a free meal. It was a truly amazing experience. Since we have posted this video we have heard from many others who have had similar experiences with wild animals, that come to humans looking for help. Nature truly is amazing.
