My “bandoneon age”: 1 year and 3 months
Note: I’m just a hobby player. Rhythm and timing and the overall style are still a work in progress, mistakes included—but hitting the right buttons is still fun 🙂

Hi! I’m Andrew, 50, and try to play bandoneon from 0 level.
My instrument doesn’t sound very Argentine, but I’m thrilled to be part of the amazing bandoneon-loving community.
I first saw a real bandoneon in September 2024 and knew nothing about the instrument—or music! I bought this old Alfred Arnold Bandoneon (1937) blindly as an experiment: could I learn it at 50? Will it play with the rusty valves, torn bellows, and decades of silence? Turns out, yes—after cleaning and patching, it plays again!
Technical specifications:
Alfred Arnold bandoneon, 1937
Einheits Bandoneon, 144 tones (Einheitsbandoneon)
Allum reeds, tuned to 438 Hz, octave tuning.
Its sound is warm and beautiful, closer to an accordion than a classic Argentine bandoneon, maybe better suited for German folk music than tango 🎶

I started this channel to track my progress, practice recording, and get used to having an audience, which for now consists mostly of my mom 😄
Huge thanks to my tutor Marina Gayotto from Buenos Aires for her guidance and patience ( / Канал !
This video may disappear someday if I manage a better recording… or maybe not.
Thanks for watching!
