Key Types & Symmetric Key Distribution (KDC) | IS - 8.1

In this video, we begin Unit 8 by exploring Key Management and Distribution. We start by clarifying the critical difference between a Session Key (used for a short duration/single transaction) and a Master Key (used to encrypt session keys). We then examine the challenge of Symmetric Key Distribution: how to securely deliver a key to two parties. We discuss the four main approaches: Physical Delivery, Third Party Delivery, Encrypted Transmission using an Old Key, and the most important method for large networks: Encrypted Transmission using a KDC (Key Distribution Center). We explain how the KDC acts as a trusted intermediary to facilitate secure communication between users.
