Just a few short decades ago, SD40s and SD50s were a common sight on the Class 1 mains, running road trains along with the big GEs and safety cab EMDs! Today, the tried and true veterans of the rails have been relegated to running locals and pulling yard duties on the big railroads, but fortunately there are plenty of regional and shortline railroads that still use these Spartan cab brutes as they were intended. The Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad is no different, as on the first day of this week, southbound road train SIRI departed Salamanca, NY and made its way into the Keystone State along the former Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh/Baltimore & Ohio mainline while being led by a trio of SD40s and an SD50!
