Hello Everyone, every so often I have been on a railway journey that lives long in the memory. My journey to Kyle of Lochalsh was one such journey. The views alone are well worth the fare. The railway came to Kyle in 1897 when the Highland Railway completed the extension of the line from Stromeferry. At the time, it was the most expensive rail route to be built in the UK given the nature of the terrain through which it was driven requiring 29 bridges and 30 cuttings excavated through solid rock. In this video I will examine the role played by the railway at Kyle, both past and present. The final part will focus on the 13 stations along the Kyle line, 6 of which are request stops, with breathtaking scenery along the way. I was also fortunate to film the Royal Scotsman departing from Strathcarron Station on its way to Kyle. I hope you enjoy the video.
