The full title of this presentation is: "Improving Reporting in Educational Intervention Research: A Hands-On Workshop with the New CLOSER and CIDER Checklists"
This presentation was made by Dr Rebecca Upsher (Kings College London)
Dr Rebecca Upsher is a Lecturer in Psychology Education at King’s College London. She specialises in student wellbeing, curriculum design, and educational research. Her work focuses on improving research transparency, co-creating inclusive learning environments, and integrating innovative approaches to support student wellbeing and learning in higher education.
Description: Transparent and consistent reporting of educational interventions is essential for improving the quality, replicability, and impact of education research. However, key information about study design and intervention components is often missing or inconsistently reported, limiting the usefulness of findings for both researchers and educators.
This interactive workshop introduces two new reporting checklists. CLOSER (Checklist for the Reporting of Educational Research) and CIDER (Checklist for Intervention Description and Replication in Education Research) are designed to support researchers in improving the transparency and completeness of both manuscript and intervention reporting in educational intervention studies. Developed through a rigorous consensus process involving experts in education, psychology, and research methodology, the checklists address common reporting gaps and provide structured guidance for research dissemination.
Participants will receive an overview of both tools, with a deeper focus on the CIDER checklist. In small groups, attendees will apply the CIDER checklist to sample abstracts or case studies to explore how intervention descriptions can be strengthened. The session will conclude with a discussion and reflection on how these tools can enhance individual research practice, peer review, and teaching-related evaluations. This workshop is suitable for anyone involved in designing, evaluating, or using research to inform teaching and learning, particularly early career researchers, educational developers, and those engaged in scholarship of teaching and learning
