Travel tips:
Getting the Russian e-visa was surprisingly easy (at least for EU citizens): it costs around $50 USD and usually takes just a few days to be approved. All documents should be printed for the border (bus tickets, health insurance, hotel reservations, etc.), although in my case the guards mostly checked my passport, visa, and asked 1–2 questions.
Leaving and re-entering Poland only required my EU passport. The bus ride takes about 3 hours, plus roughly 1.5 hours for border checks.
Important to know: EU bank cards don’t work, EU mobile data doesn’t work, and even my paid VPN didn’t work, so be prepared. Also, very few people speak English.
Despite all that, it’s 100% worth the trip.
Bonus: the bus to from Gdansk to Kaliningrad leaves right in front of the Gdansk bus station, not inside the parking area.
