Join me for a quick but meaningful flight from Steinbach South to Steinbach North Manitoba, as I take Mike Victor Uniform—my trusty 1961 Cessna 172—across town for an oil change and a grocery run. It’s just a 6-minute flight, but it leads to a surprise homecoming moment and a connection to the aircraft’s past.

While doing my IFR training at Harv’s Air in Steinbach Manitoba, I’m living on-site in a humble trailer and flying daily to sharpen my skills. The team is busy keeping Harv’s impressive fleet flying, so I fly over to Steinbach North Airport, where I meet Ken Peddy, a former commercial pilot who trained in this very airplane back in the late 1960s when it belonged to the Winnipeg Flying Club.

We chat about the original paint job, the big ADF antenna hump, and the 8,000 hours this bird logged before disappearing from the records. If you love airplane history, general aviation stories, or just want a look into everyday flying life, you’ll enjoy this one.
