I'd wanted to make this rail trip for quite some time. Alaska is a place that holds my heart -- starting with the Jack London novels and short stories I had read as a child, and later, reading the National Geographic magazines and musing over the glossy pictures of wildlife, of the mountains, and the people who lived in this mysteriously wild part of our continent.
One leg of my nearly 5000 mile solo travel journey -- from the lower 48 Pacific Northwest through the inside passage and across Alaska for Fairbanks, and then back to the PNW -- I have to say that out of all of the parts that made up this adventure, I wish this part had lasted a little longer.
