Movie Review of The Equalizer 2 (2018) – With Some Humor!
Alright, folks, buckle up! Denzel Washington is back in Equalizer 2, playing Robert McCall, the most dangerous Lyft driver in cinema history. Imagine ordering a ride, and instead of a guy in a Prius, you get Denzel Washington, who’s just finished calculating how long it’ll take him to knock out all the bad guys before you even say, “Hey, can we swing by Starbucks?”
Plot Overview:
In The Equalizer 2, McCall continues his quest to right wrongs, help the helpless, and terrify anyone who ever thought about jaywalking. But this time, the stakes are personal! His friend Susan Plummer (played by Melissa Leo) gets murdered, and you just know that means trouble for whoever’s responsible. Denzel isn’t just looking for equalizers; he's coming for full-on vengeance.
The Action:
Now, let’s talk about the action scenes. McCall has this insane ability to turn everyday objects into weapons of mass destruction. In one scene, he uses a credit card to kill a guy. That’s right – a credit card. Just imagine the guy trying to explain that in the afterlife: "What happened to you?"Well, uh, I maxed out."
The movie is packed with intense moments where McCall uses his "superpower" – basically, the ability to stare at people with such intensity that they rethink all their life decisions. I swear, if Denzel stared at my bank account, it might actually grow a balance. He’s that powerful.
The Bad Guys:
The villains in this movie are your typical bad dudes, but honestly, none of them stand a chance. You can’t help but feel bad for them. They probably thought they signed up for a regular action movie but ended up in Denzel’s universe, where Equalizer Physics applied. In this world, gravity doesn’t stop a man from throwing you through a window, and time slows down so McCall can break your nose and make it home for tea.
The Plot Twist:
There’s a plot twist in this movie that you’ll probably see coming from a mile away if you’ve ever watched, well, any movie. Let’s just say that McCall’s best buddy might not be as "best," as we thought. But it’s still fun to see how Denzel handles betrayal – spoiler alert: it involves a lot of breaking things and people.
Emotional Depth:
The film does try to add emotional depth with McCall mentoring a young artist, Miles. It’s like The Karate Kid, but instead of learning karate, Miles learns how to paint and avoid getting killed by gangs. Plus, if there’s one lesson we all need, it’s how to handle life’s tough moments with the wisdom of Denzel.
The Weather Scene:
The final fight takes place during a full-on hurricane. Why not? McCall doesn't just fight people. He fights nature itself. It’s like the director thought, “You know what would make this battle scene even cooler? Category 5 winds!” At this point, you half expect McCall to walk out of the storm holding a lightning bolt like he just borrowed it from Thor.
Final Thoughts:
All in all, The Equalizer 2 is a solid action flick, elevated by Denzel’s effortless cool. Sure, the plot may not win any awards for originality, and the bad guys make dumb decisions like, “Hey, let’s keep antagonizing the scariest man alive.” But you don’t watch a movie like this for groundbreaking storytelling. You watch it to see Denzel calmly destroy everything in his path.
So, the next time you think about giving someone a 1-star rating on Lyft, just remember: they might be Robert McCall in disguise. And you don’t want that smoke.
