Moonlight Reggae Band
From Wanarn
Sings in Ngaanyatjarra & English
Moonlight Reggae Band is a roots reggae group with desert rhythms from the Ngaanyatjarra Lands of Western Australia.
The Ngaanyatjarra Lands, a region about the size of the UK covering WA's far northern Goldfields, the scattered communities have plenty in common.
"Music is important for the Ngaanyatjarra people. It brings families and friends together," lead singer Issac Bates told the ABC.
Moonlight Reggae Band’s name is inspired by the constant of the moonlight, it appearing every day.
Formed in 2017, led by Isaac Bates on vocals and keys with Andy Campbell on keys, Milton Reid on bass, Alister Reid is on rhythm guitar, Frank Bates- drums and Ryan Richards provides vocals,
Known for heartfelt harmonies and desert reggae spirit, their lyrics speak to the beauty and challenges of life in remote communities — love for family, pride in culture, and a deep respect for Country.
Popular tracks include Wati Tjarurrunya, Jail and their most recent release, Wati Panaka.
They lit up the Bush Bands Bash stage in 2021, and have since continued to grow in strength and confidence, developing a loyal following across the Lands.
