Hey everyone, it’s been quite a while since we uploaded, but we thought we’d restart with the final episode from our Kerala series. So, here’s a detailed video of the time we spent in Kochi. If we had to summarize our time in Kochi, we’d put it this way: Kochi is a perfect amalgamation of history, heritage, cultures, nature, development, food, and good people — a perfect example of what India stands for. They say that if you want to experience diversity, you need to visit Kerala, and they’re absolutely right.
That’s why we highly highly recommend to visit Kochi;Day 1
Kochi is a major port city and the second largest city after Mumbai along the west coastline of India. So it is given that the city also consists islands and to commute to these island, the government has started first of its kind water metro in the world. So we started our day with commuting to Fort Kochi from Ernakulam via water metro. Amazing part about this is, it is super eco friendly, very affordable and fast.
Time: Monday to Saturday - 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM Sundays 8:00 AM to 10:30 PM
As soon as we got down from the Water Metro, we saw the iconic chinese fishing nets. This technique of fishing was brought in India by Chinese traders and after all these years it stayed and became so iconic. After reaching to Fort Kochi we started exploring the area which is again divided in two parts, the first one is Vasco Da Gama square area and the other one is Mattancherry Palace side area. We first went to Jew Town. History of Jews in Kochi dates back to many many years, Jew traders first came to India during the period of King Solomon and after Roman invasion many took shelter here in our country and formed this Town.
In Jew Town, the one thing you can not and should not miss is - the Pardesi Synagouge which was built in 1500s in the land donated by King of Kochi which is sharing the wall with our Hindu Temple. It is really really amazing to see the spirit of coexistence and tolerance not just in spirit but in practice.
Time: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday - 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Friday - 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and Closed on Saturdays
After that we had Sadhya at Gokul Ottupurra - When you are in Kerala, you can not miss this. They serve 26 different dishes and everything tastes so heavenly, specially Payasam.
Time: 7:00 AM to 10:30 PM
After having lunch we ended our day 1 at Mattancherry Palace which is also known as Dutch Palace but original built by Portugese for Veera Kerala Verma Raja - King of Kerala. Palace is now converted into musuem and one thing you can not miss here is Murals depicting Ramayana and Mahabharta.
Time: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Closed on Fridays.
Entry Fees: INR 2
Day 2On this day we explored the Vasco Da Gama square side of Fort Kochi and started with one of the earliest european church built in India known as St.Francis Church but it is famous because of one more important event which happened here, when the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama died in his third visit to India was buried here for 14 years and you can still see his grave stone here in the church.
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Fort Kochi is home to some of the most unique cafes, so after visiting church we went to the most popular one called as Kashi Art Cafe. The ambiance is very artisty and they serve very delicious coffees and food.
Time: 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM
Our second cafe was Leela Art cafe which had very different vibes and we really really enjoyed their desserts.
Time: 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM
The last place we visited was a Mall about which everyone was talking, so we thought to check it out ourselves. It is the one of the biggest mall in India and it very very famous for its huge hypermarket. Name of the mall is LuLu Mall and we used Kochi Metro to reach there as it is the most convenient and cheapest way and also, it is directly connected with the mall.
