Austria is one of Eurovision's older competitors, having seen moderate success varying between years. Since the introduction of semifinals in the contest, Austria frequently struggled to qualify until 2014 where they managed to turn the tables and have only missed the final three times since.
Austria has won three times in total, their most recent victory having been just this year. They first won in 1966 with Udo Jürgens's "Merci, Chérie", later in 2014 with Conchita Wurst's "Rise Like A Phoenix", and lastly they won this year with JJ's song "Wasted Love".
