Pooh | Himachal Pradesh | Day 13
Day 12 of College Khatam… Himachal Chalu did not go according to plan.
After leaving Kalpa, I reached Reckong Peo to catch a bus for my next destination.
But I was late… and I missed it.
Instead of staying the night in Reckong Peo, I did something impulsive —
I got into a random bus going ahead.
That bus took me to Pooh, Himachal Pradesh.
I reached Pooh at night, thinking I’d just stay and leave early morning.
But after waking up, I started chatting with locals, casually asking —
“yaha kuch interesting hai?”
That’s when they told me about an offbeat trek…
and a baba who has been living there alone for the last 21 years.
The trek was long. Remote. And people clearly warned me to start early.
I didn’t listen.
I started the trek around 2 PM —
a decision I would later realise was a huge mistake.
The trail was slippery, isolated, and dangerous.
I slipped many times. There wasn’t a single soul around.
At least 10 times, I thought of turning back.
But something inside me just didn’t let me.
Around 5:20 PM, I finally reached the top.
Meeting the baba was peaceful, grounding, and unforgettable.
We talked for more than an hour — about life, solitude, and mountains.
I didn’t want to leave.
At 6:30 PM, I started descending.
By 7 PM, it was completely dark.
No lights.
No people.
Only moonlight… and sounds of animals.
I even sent snaps to people saying — “agar mujhe bhalu ya snow leopard kha jaye to bhoolna mat mujhe.”
I was so scared that I didn’t even turn on my flashlight, afraid it might attract animals.
My fists were tight. My mind was racing.
I honestly can’t explain what I felt in those moments.
Around 7:30 PM, I finally saw a house… and two people.
That’s when I knew — I was going to make it back.
I returned, ate at a dhaba before everything closed, and sent one last snap that day —
“I’m alive.”
This episode isn’t about trekking.
It’s about instincts, mistakes, fear…
and the calm that comes after surviving something you didn’t plan.
