I found these swallowtail, papilio cresphontes, as a caterpillars in January 2022. This video covers the metamorphosis of one of those caterpillars. The host plant used was ruta. As a caterpillar, all they do is eat and eat. The caterpillars are most active during the night. Towards the end of January the chrysalis was formed. April 2022, and with the one in this video; I have released a total of two Giant swallowtails.
Previously, I raised and released an Anise swallowtail, papilio zelicaon. Both species can be found on ruta plants.
