Ummatic Solidarity is the Need of the Time – Shaykh Dr. Omar Suleiman | Ummatics Conference 2024

We are proud to present Shaykh Dr. Omar Suleiman's keynote speech, "Ummatic Solidarity is the Need of the Time", exploring the critical importance of unity within the global Muslim community today in the context of the Prophetic Seerah. He says "Allah will move the world for this umma when this umma moves for him."

Shaykh Dr. Omar Suleiman ‪@OmarSuleimanPersonal‬ is the Founder and President of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research (‪@yaqeeninstituteofficial‬ ) and an Adjunct Professor of Islamic Studies in the Graduate Liberal Studies Program at SMU (Southern Methodist University). He is also the Resident Scholar at Valley Ranch Islamic Center and Co-Chair Emeritus of Faith Forward Dallas at Thanks-Giving Square.

“Ummatics” is an emerging concept in Muslim sociopolitical discourse but one that seeks to strengthen age-old Islamic ideas and practices. Our 2024 annual conference "Towards an Ummatic Future" took place at ISTAC (International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is our second conference thus far.

This conference seeks to explore the “what”, “why”, and “how” of the Ummatics Institute in the context of imagining an ummatic future, understanding the importance of working for it, and thinking about how such work might proceed. The conference covered reflections by prominent thinkers on Islam as an ummatic deen, comparative unification models, mid-level discursive change, ummatic political analysis and more.
